Upon the letter of the Ministry of National Education dated 17/4/2006 and numbered 8521, according to the additional article 30 of the Law dated 28/3/1983 and numbered 2809, the establishment decree of Iğdır University Faculty of Agriculture, which was decided to be established within Kafkas University on 20/4/2006 by the Council of Ministers, was published in the Official Gazette numbered 26163 with the decision number 2006/10381. Our faculty was affiliated to the newly established Iğdır University with the Additional 100th article added to the Law on the Organisation of Higher Education Institutions dated 28/3/1983 and numbered 2809 on 22/05/2008.

The Department of Agricultural Biotechnology was approved to be opened within the Faculty of Agriculture in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547 amended by Law No. 2880 at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting of the Council of Higher Education dated 7/12/2017. Prof. Dr. Sulhattin YAŞAR has been appointed as the acting Head of the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology. In accordance with Article 21 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 and Article 14 of the Regulation on Academic Organisation in Universities, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arzu ÜNAL has been appointed as ‘Head of the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology’ as of 20.11.2018 and also as ‘Head of the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology’ as of 11.12.2018 in accordance with Article 16 of the Regulation on Academic Organisation in Universities. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Zafer Tel and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adnan Aydın served as department chairs respectively.

Our department was established in 2018 within the Faculty of Agriculture and continues to serve in the fields of Plant Biotechnology, Enzyme and Microbial Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology with 1 Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors and 1 Research Assistant.
